On Marriage

A ‘bro’ once assumed I'm in want of a ring
Not so, dear bro; take your leave for assuming

I've a tough ‘nough time breaking through the glass ceiling
I don't have the time to ponder marriage and meaning
I do believe in having a partner in life
But it will take a special someone to style me their “wife”
Also critical my thought of rings -- overrated!
How humiliating to wear if one utterly hates it
The engineered importance of marketing and ads
Stokes my mind to wonder if a ring is a fad
If, indeed, advertisements consist of mostly spam
It follows, therefore, many marriages are shams
Can one question marriage and fancy themselves romantic?
Is true love ever-present though relationships pedantic?
When programming conflates forever love with commercials
Does it risk the chance of love becoming shadows universal?
And therein begets irony in due course
The happiest marriages are driven to divorce
I say once again I do not want for a ring
Only love, true love, shall satisfy me
